Huawei has just finalized its conference held on the sidelines of MWC 2019 in Barcelona. In addition to renewing its range of ultrabooks, the Chinese manufacturer has mainly unveiled the Mate X: its first foldable and compatible smartphone 5G.
Between Huawei and Samsung, the war is declared. Just days after the announcement of its Galaxy Fold to 26 April, its Chinese competitor pulls the Mate X. It will be launched mid-year for a price announced at $2611 in its unique version of 8 GB RAM and 512 GB internal storage.
Huawei Mate X: The Unique Foldable Smartphone
If Huawei had cleverly managed to dodge the leaks concerning its flexible terminal until today, some photos had already appeared before his conference. So we are dealing with a smartphone with a convoluted design where the Mate X would have only one screen, flexible in its center. In smartphone mode, the terminal offers a beautiful display area of 6.6 inches on one side and 6.2 inches on the other, with very thin borders. If Unfolded, it is an AMOLED slab 8 inches (2480 x 2000 pixels ratio 8:71) diagonal available to you.
Main difference with the Galaxy Fold: the absence of notch that would reduce the display area in tablet mode. Huawei accomplishes this little prodigy by skipping over front photo modules. Indeed the fold at the level of the dorsal screen clearly reveals the quartet of dorsal cameras at his side. So these are the same modules that are used to take selfies. It was necessary to think of it.
Impossible Camera – Huawei’s dada in recent years – it is surprising that the manufacturer has not piped the sensors that will equip its most premium smartphone to date. Still signed by the German Leica, we do not know everything about their characteristics.
Thin In Its Screen
This South Korean proposal showed a thick smartphone with a complex mechanism (6.9 mm thick when unfolded); on the other hand, the Huawei solution can even be thinner than the 2018 iPad Pro with just 5.4mm thick. As we said above, the design of the Mate X is more like the idea we had of a first foldable smartphone. Equipped with a hinge in its center, the screen folds naturally. And if Huawei offered its second panel, a bastard ratio of 25: 9 is to be able to place a ” sidebar ” at its side.
Huawei Mate X Beats New Fast Charge
Like the Galaxy Fold, the Huawei Mate X has a battery duo with 4,500mAh in total. Where the manufacturer innovates by making it compatible with the fast charge to 55 W ! A first.
Multi-tasking Performance To Experience
Huawei promises us multitasking but has not yet proven that its product is capable of handling it intelligently, and for any application. Indeed, and it is quite rare on the part of the manufacturer, no mention was made of EMUI, the overlay of Android home. Moreover, it has not escaped anyone who has followed the conference that Huawei Mate X has only 8 GB of RAM; against 12 GB for the competition. A detail that may be important, especially for multitasking.
Also, Mate X will ship SoC Kirin 980, engraved in 7 nm and introduced with great fanfare in the Mate 20 Pro last October. Moreover, there is something that will not be removed from Huawei Mate X: its native compatibility with 5G networks.
